Livia Caffagni

received her diploma in recorder from Giorgio Pacchioni at the Conservatory of Bologna and graduated in German and English literatures at the University there. She studied viola da gamba with Paolo Pandolfo, Gregorian semiology with Antonino Albarosa and voice with Sergio Foresti. She also holds a post-graduate diploma in Renaissance Music Studies from the Conservatory of Lecce, gained under the guidance of Diego Fratelli.

Since 1982 she has performed in various ensembles of Renaissance and Baroque music, and since 1986 is a member of the Medieval ensemble laReverdie, with which she has been a customary guest at a number of the most prestigious festivals of early music in Europe, recording for all European national broadcasters and 16 CDs for the French label ARCANA with the co-sponsorship of the WDR. All CDs have obtained a lot of important prizes (among all the Diapason d’Or de l’année 1993, Finalist 2010 Midem Classical Awards, Early Music)

She currently is professor of recorder at the Conservatory of Trent, Italy.
Since 2003 she has taught both medieval music and medieval musical notation at the International Summer Courses of Early Music - Urbino, Italy.
