Knights Maids and Miracles
3/4 singers and instrumentalists
The three sections of the program reproduce in music the suggestion of the incipit "Of Women, Knights, Arms, and Love" by Ludovico Ariosto's poem, which perfectly summarizes the main elements of the medieval imaginary, to which the "Miracles" section is added. The ideals of courtesy, loyalty and religiosity, with the poetics of courtly love and the narration of prodigies are privileged elements in literature and in the sacred and secular art of the Middle Ages. They become sound and word in the lyrics of cantilene, laudes, motets and madrigals taken from the main sources between the 13th and 14th centuries.
